A new competition!

June 15th, 2014

I’ve been talking about a new competition for a few weeks now, and here it is at last! You can enter by either

1. Making a video trailer for any one of my children’s novels.

or

2. Making a storyboard for a trailer for any one of my children’s novels.

Competition rules:
1. You can enter both parts of the competition (trailer or storyboard), but can only win one of them. So if you win one, you will be automatically disqualified from the other. You can only enter ONE trailer, and/or ONE storyboard.

2. Adults can enter, but must state that they are adults (over 18 years old). Anyone younger than 18 must state their age. Depending on how many people enter, I will probably divide entries into age groups, to make it fairer. So there will be more than one first prize.

3. The competition starts now, and ends at midnight on Thursday July 31st.

4. Email your entry to me at the following address: lian at liantanner dot com (As all my readers are exceptionally intelligent, I’m sure you can work out my email address from that) along with the name of the book you’ve done the trailer/storyboard for. And your age. And your first name.

And that’s it! You’ve entered the competition! I’ll put the entries up on my blog as they arrive, so you can see what other people are doing.

Some questions and answers:

Q:What’s the prize?

A: Harry suggested I offer his pawprint to the lucky winner – he is out in the kitchen practising with the ink. However, if that is not enough for you, you can choose from either a copy of Ice Breaker (if you haven’t got one yet) or an advance copy of The Hidden Book 2: Sunker’s Deep. If you choose Sunker, you’ll have to wait for a bit, because the advance copies don’t come out till early October. But at least you will get it several weeks ahead of the rest of the world.

Q: Is that the only prize?

A: No, the runners-up get an Ice Breaker poster.

Q: Can people who don’t live in Australia or New Zealand enter?

A: They can indeed! This is an international competition, which is why I said ‘a trailer for any one of my novels’ rather than just ‘a trailer for Ice Breaker‘ (because Ice Breaker hasn’t yet come out in the rest of the world).

Q: What’s a storyboard?

A: Google it and find out. 🙂

Now get to work. Harry is very excited, and can’t wait to see some entries.

Any more questions, just ask. If I can’t answer them, Harry will.

P.S. Tell your friends. Let’s see how many entries we can get.

eeeek! Thank you, Lian! Excited! VERY excited! Telling as many of my friends online and in the real world! And I was just wondering, could you give us some suggestions of websites or video makers that you would recommend for us to use for the competition?

Oh, yes, Harry! I would love your paw-tograph! I would cherish it forever!

    Io 🙂

    1. Lian says:

Paw-tograph? That is really funny. 🙂 I don’t know of any useful websites or video makers, but if anyone else does, perhaps they could leave a message and let us know.

  2. Lilli says:

    1. Lian says:

Oops, looks like you might have a bit of an advantage, Lilli! Can you give other people some idea of useful websites or video makers, as Io was asking above?

    2. Io says:

Lucky! And very synced! Lessons at the same time as the competition? L-U-C-K-Y L-I-L-L-I!!!

I know right? An ARC of Sunker’s Deep is the perfect prize! I want it!

      Io:)

  3. Lilli says:

Sure , there is this app called gameurvideo it’s free from the App Store and fxguru which is also free from the App Store – there’s iMovie but that it quite expensive …

There’s video star which is free from the App Store and perfect video from the App Store as well !

So there are the pretty important apps – for. Storyboards you can download a storyboard from any storyboard site ( there are loads ) always use pencil when doing a storyboard , plan before you make any video don’t just jump into filming .

I really hope that this helps for everyone , sadly I don’t know any good movie editing program’s online , just applications on apple !

    Nuttie 🙂

    1. Lian says:

Well I am very glad you are going to enter, Nuttie. I put the story board option in because I’m no good at movies either. 😉 Good luck! I’m really looking forward to seeing the different entries.

  12. Evie says:

Hi! I’m so exited! Can’t wait! I am definitely entering.
    🙂

    1. Lian says:

      Glad to hear it, Evie!

  13. Elena says:

I can’t wait until Iget to see everyone else’s videos and storyboards. I have already entered but I am interested to know how other people approach the competition.

    😀

    1. Lian says:

I agree, Elena! Of course I get to see them all straight away, and it’s so interesting to see the different approaches. I was going to put them up on my blog as they came in, but I decided not to, as it seemed a bit unfair to people who entered early if other people could then use their ideas. So I’m hanging onto all of them until the competition closes. New closing date is Sunday 3rd August.

  14. Annette says:

    Hi Lian,

I am a teacher working with students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties. I have a student who is really enjoying your books and we just spotted your competition. He has started planning a storyboard but I wanted to check if you will accept a scanned paper version rather than one made on the computer as we have limited time in our lessons and working on paper will be quicker for him to do on his own at home. Thanks,
    Annette

    1. Lian says:

Hi Annette, glad to hear that your student is going to enter the competition. Yes, I’m happy to accept a scanned version. Note the new closing date of August 3rd. https://liantanner.com.au/extension-to-competition-deadline
