City of Lies launch – watch the highlights!

October 30th, 2011

Before the Hobart launch of City of Lies, back at the beginning of October, I asked a friend – Glenn Jeffrey – if he’d video it. And he did a brilliant job! Here are the highlights of the launch. The people who you’ll see speaking are, in order, Essie Kruckemeyer (the MC), Eva Mills (my editor at Allen & Unwin), Bonnie and Ella McDevitt, who both reviewed the book, and me. I hope you enjoy it!

And if you want a little more, here you’ll see me reading the chapter called ‘To the docks’, which tells the story of what happens directly after Toadspit’s little sister Bonnie has vanished off the streets of Jewel, leaving her bow and and a blood-stained arrow behind.

I’m dying to read City of Lies it’s just that I live on the other side of the world (literally) and i have to wait till next year!! unfair!!

    1. Lian says:

I guess that means you live in India, SMT? That’s the only place I know of where City of Lies is coming out next year. And it’s not really the other side of the world, not from Tasmania – it’s just a hop, skip and jump across the Indian Ocean. πŸ™‚ All the same, I hope the time passes quickly for you!

  4. S.M.T says:

Actually I live in Saudi Arabia where books never come out until 5,000 years from there original releasing date. For a bookworm who lived most her life in America, that was kind of a shock for me when i first came here!!

  5. S.M.T says:

Oh and by the way i meant to wait till next year in the summer so I can go to America and get my books πŸ˜‰

    1. Lian says:

Aha, now I understand why you won’t get it till next year! Or could you order it online? I’m not sure if Amazon etc deliver to Saudi Arabia. A trip to America seems like an awfully long way to go for a re-supply of books! πŸ™‚

    1. Lian says:

Oh I really HATED hearing from you, Raiin. SUCH a disappointment! πŸ™‚ (Hang on, my cat just jumped onto my lap – now I can tell the truth.) I am so pleased you liked it so much. Thanks for letting me know. I do hope you’ll tell your friends – I want to get word out about the books, and the best way of doing that is for people to just talk about them to their friends. Consider yourself one of my new publicity agents! πŸ™‚

      1. Raiin says:

Nah No way ABSOLUTELY no way πŸ˜€ I won’t be honoured to be your new publicity agent πŸ˜€ … I never told my friends & Family about it & they didn’t even beLIEve me when I told them it’s an amazing book (ah! great timing Pounce just left… so it’s just us now):D haha My Brother was so excited the first time he heard the rules about the city of jewel & festival of lies & with the guardians & all the moving rooms and all those different pets & names. So he ended up Borrowing all my keepers Books & He’ll be returning home next year that’s why I ended up reading it Three times before I lend it to him today πŸ˜€ I also asked some of my classmates to buy one since bro already have my books πŸ™‚

        1. Lian says:

Well, Raiin, you were obviously a VERY BAD choice for publicity agent! πŸ˜€ (Thanks for telling people. And keep up the excellent work! πŸ˜€ )

I got your first book ramaging through B&N closeout sale. Read through the synopsis and thought my 10yr old daughter will like it. She did liked it and asked for the second one, so I got it at Amazon.com. She’s still working to finish the second one, too busy with after school activities, but knows she want to read the last one too as soon as it comes out, so consider one as pre-ordered. So I asked her how its been and she is so excited to tell me about it that now I’ve started to read the first one just so I can relate.
We plan to complete the series (hardcovers) and hope that you will be in the East Coast to sign all of them. This will be cherished not only by my daughter but also by myself as I value the time we spent talking about the adventures of your characters. She told me the third book will be available by end of 2012, so I look forward to meeting the person that inspired my daughter to read and also help us bond.

NJT, what a nice message to receive from you! I’m so pleased that your daughter likes the books so much, and that you are enjoying them too. As you can imagine, I love hearing stories like this. I assume by the East Coast you mean the East Coast of the US? I’m not at all sure when I will be there – I live in Tasmania, so it’s completely up to Random House, my US publishers, when I get to visit the US and where I go. I was in New York nearly two years ago, and in Chicago last year, so who knows where they will send me this year. In the meantime, I wonder if your daughter might like some signed bookplates. I had them made for precisely this sort of occasion, when people are so far away and I’m not sure if or when I will ever meet them.

Woooow. After seeing number two’s book launch you made me want to go more! (If thats possible) and for crying out loud! You write sooooo well!

    1. Lian says:

Thank you, Lily. It’s very nice of you to say so.
