Read This! competition – the entries

June 14th, 2012

I’ve just been judging the Tasmanian entries to the Read This! competition, where kids were invited to submit a creative idea about their favourite book. They were allowed to work in any format they wanted, including writing a short story, making a video trailer, writing a poem or song, drawing, sewing a costume or making an art piece. As long as it made other people want to read the book.

Some of the entries were terrific. I don’t think I’m allowed to say yet who the top three were for Tasmania (they’ll go onto the national final), but you can see some of the national entries here.

  1. Hi there, was looking for info on the Read This 2012 winners and found your post, thanks google πŸ™‚
Megan is our eldest daughter and we think that maybe, just maybe, she was the winner for the Tasmanian entries. She is looking over my shoulder as I type and was VERY thrilled to read that you were one of the judges. Megan has devoured both Keeper books and is looking forward to reading the third. You are one of her favourite authors and it’s the icing on her cake that you would have looked at her entry.

Hi Sharmaine, lovely to hear from you. Yes, Megan is indeed the Tasmanian winner – that is, if she’s the Megan who made the Hugo Cabret book trailer. The link to the winners announcement is here. Huge congratulations to her, it was a terrific trailer and a well-deserved win. I really enjoyed judging the entries – so I’m very pleased that Megan is a fan of the Keepers books. Only a bit over three months now till the launch of book three – would you and Megan like an invitation to either the Hobart or the Launceston launch? Let me know, and I’ll put you on the list.

  2. Morning πŸ™‚ Yes that’s our Megan, she had a wonderful time scripting and making the film. We watched the movie just recently and she was surprised by how different it was to what she thought it would be, lesson learnt there πŸ™‚
We would be delighted to come to the Hobart launch!!! How exciting.

I’ve put your email address on the invite list, Sharmaine. The Hobart launch will be on Sunday October 14th, and I’ll send out invites with plenty of warning!

  3. Thank you!!!! We will be looking forward to the 14th of October πŸ™‚
