The Keepers dress-up competition!

November 25th, 2012

To celebrate the fact that all three books in the Keepers trilogy are now available, we are having a new competition! It was inspired by 11-year-old Maddy Lohse, whose father sent me a photo of Maddy dressed as Goldie No One for her school Book Week. It was such a great photo that I put it up on my blog here, and mentioned that if anyone else wanted to dress up as one of the characters in the Keepers, I’d put their photos up too. Which led to this response.

Now Miss Mouse and I have decided to turn it into a competition. (Miss Mouse likes a good competition, though we differ in our idea of appropriate prizes. She thinks I should offer a freshly caught fish as first prize, and perhaps a tin of her favourite cat food as second.)

Here’s what you must do to enter.

1. Choose a character from the Keepers – it can be any character at all, out of any of the books.

2. Dress up as that character, as convincingly as you can.

3. Get someone to take your photo – maybe take quite a few and choose the best one.

4. Email the photo to me at the following address: lian at liantanner dot com (yes, I’m writing it like that to fool the spam bots. If you’re not a spam bot you should be able to work it out) along with the name of the person you are dressed up as. And your age. And your first name.

And that’s it! You’ve entered the competition! I’ll put the photos up on my blog as they arrive, so you can see what other people are doing.

Here are some questions that I KNOW people will ask. And the answers.

Q: Can I enter more than once? A: Yes, you can enter a maximum of three times. If you send a series of photos, like Lily did here, that counts as one entry.

Q: Can adults enter, or is it only for kids? A: Yes, adults can definitely enter! If they do, I will probably make a separate category for them, and have a separate prize.

Q: When does the competition close? A: It closes at midnight on December 31st. Which gives you five weeks. The results will be announced a few days later.

Q: What’s first prize? A: A freshly caught fish – oops, no, that’s wrong. (Get your paws off the keyboard, Miss Mouse!) If you win, you can choose. The main first prize I’m thinking of is all three audio books. (Yes, you heard me. ALL THREE!)Β  But if you really hate audio books we can negotiate. I also have hard cover copies of Books 2 and 3, as well as soft covers of Books 1 and 2. Most of these are the US edition, though I have a couple of Autralian ones. I have a very nice poster, which is probably more of a third prize really. And I might be able to dig up some other stuff. So there will be prizes for a FEW people, not just one. (Unless of course only one person enters, in which case there will only be one prize.)

Now get to it. Who are you going to dress up as? How will you do it? What sort of expression will you have on your face for the photos?

Any more questions, just ask. If I can’t answer them, I’m sure Miss Mouse will be able to.

P.S. Tell your friends. Let’s see how many entries we can get.

  2. Io says:

I’ve been waiting for this for weeks!!!
    (Actually a few hours)

    1. Lian says:

πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ It just SEEMED like weeks.

  3. Io says:

    That’s right!

  4. Lilli says:

    OMG !!!!

    YES YES YES !!

I decided who I am going to dress up as ,and I have got my costume all ready .

But when it is 34 degrees in Sydney ,its kinda hard to put on a long coat without having to take it off 2 seconds later!

    From Lilli

P.S Miss Mouse ,I am sure that the cat and you will have a good time organising a competition for the readers of the series cats !

P.P.S I hope that an Idlecat enters wouldn’t be fun to see an IDLECAT dressed up as Goldie!

    :):):):):):):):):):):)

    πŸ˜‰ IDLECATS ROCK !

    1. Lian says:

I do sympathise about the weather, Lilli. Very hard to put ANY extra clothes on when it’s 34 degrees! And I would LOVE to see an idlecat dressed up as Goldie. But would an idlecat appreciate an audiobook??????

  5. shannon says:

yay! this ios going to be awesome! i can’t wait to see what people enter, i know who im dressing up as i already have most of the costume πŸ˜€

  6. Lily says:

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does it count as two different entries if there are two people in one photo? like if my friend and I made one together, then sent in the picture of both of us, would it count as both of us?

    1. Lian says:

I think one photo should count as one entry, Lily, no matter how many people are in it. But if that photo wins, there will still only be the one prize between you.

      1. Lily says:

No, I don’t think you get what I mean. If shannon and I take a picture as, say, Bonnie and Goldie, and we each send the picture each, can you judge on shannon and my piture differently, like our outfits and expretions will be different. And, can you send in videos?

        1. Lian says:

Oh, I see what you mean. Yes, I guess I could judge you differently, as long as you said that you wanted to be judged by yourself, rather than the pair of you. And I think I’d better say no to videos – it starts to get complicated and it’s very hard to judge videos against still pictures. So, no videos for now – but it’s a good idea and we might make that another competition at a later date.

  7. Io says:

    Oh, that’s too bad!

  8. Io says:

    Oh, that’s too bad!

  9. Hannah says:

This is going to be fun!

  10. Lenichi says:

This looks like it would be fun! I only managed to get my hands on the first book though, not any of the others, so I have very limited knowledge about them~ (Even though I’ve been looking through my library for the past year hoping to find another!)

Just one question though: Could a girl dress up as a guy character? I think it would be fun to do that!

Hehe, unfair advantage on my part. My sister is a camera freak. She loves photography~ I don’t know if she would take pictures for me, but if she does then I would be so happy!

    1. Lian says:

I’m sorry you haven’t managed to find the other books yet, Lenichi. Maybe you could ask your library to get them in? Most librarians are very happy to receive requests. As for your question, yes, a girl could definitely dress up as a guy character! I hope you’ll enter – I think it’s going to be so interesting to see what people do.

  11. bj says:

Im going as Toadspit! if mum lets me

    1. Lian says:

I hope she does, bj. I’m looking forward to seeing your entry!

  12. Lily says:

Can we have a video comp. maybe like one for fun and not for prizes. So not a comp., more of a fun thing.

    1. Lian says:

Nope. One comp at a time or it gets confusing. Videos next year.

  13. Hannah says:

    I just made a website, for anyone who’s interested it’s call leplacetobe.weebly.com
I put the keepers as my spotlight book of the month! (^_^)

    1. Lian says:

Hi Hannah, I love your website, it’s really elegant. And thanks for putting up the Keepers as the book of the month. I feel very honoured. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ It’s nice to see so many people making websites – they are fun to do, and it’s good to have a place where you can chat to the world!

  14. Hannah says:

Thanks, and it’s one of my top favorite series! It’s not completely finished, I still have some work to do. But I’m glad that you like it!

  15. Io says:

I might be able to send you a picture either on Saturday or Sunday since we are going shopping on one of those days.

    1. Lian says:

Hooray, can’t wait to see it, Io!

  16. Io says:

    *gulps*
    Ha…ha…
    It probably will be OK.

  17. Lily says:

I donno what to do! AAAAAAAAAAH! Goldie in the first book . . . uh, umm who? YIKES! Some one, ANYone, give me a good scene! I’ve BLANKED!

    1. Lian says:

πŸ™‚ Take your time, Lily. You’ve got till midnight Dec 31st.

  18. Grace says:

I think I might enter! I adore photography and the Keepers books! If you thought of an idlecat as a house cat would you first tink it was orange, blueish-gray, or black? Lets see if I can acctually get this done before the 31st πŸ™‚

Teehee. 34 degrees. Silly celsius :p

    1. Lian says:

Hi Grace, I do hope you send in an entry. We’ve had a couple of good ones already, and I’m hoping for more. As for the idlecat, I think of them as a sort of tawny colour, so maybe orange would be closest! (Is there going to be an idlecat in your entry???????)
