CBCA Notable Books 2011

April 12th, 2011

The Children’s Book Council of Australia has just announced its shortlist for the Book of the Year Award, plus its list of Notable Books. And Museum of Thieves made the Notable list in the Younger Readers category!

Phew!

If you’d like to see the various shortlists, you’ll find them here. I notice that Melina Marchetta’s The Piper’s Son is on the Older Readers shortlist, as it should be. It was one of my very favourite books last year.

    That’s fantastic!
I haven’t read the Pipers Son, my sister’s got it, but I don’ think she thought I would like it.

I think you should give it a try at least, Romi. But read Saving Francesca first. (It’s in the library.) It’s the same characters, but when they are a couple of years younger. And they are both terrific books.

  2. Lian, I posted a blog this morning about my experience as a Younger Reader judge for the CBCA Claytons in Qld. Only 1 of my picks actually won, but I always knew it would come down to personal taste in the end. And the 6 I chose certainly lodged themselves in my heart!
I have a little mention of you in the blog too. 🙂 Here’s the link. Enjoy!

Thanks Sheryl, that’s really nice. I feel very proud that MOT was one of the two books that you chose to keep! I also notice that all the Clayton’s awards picked ‘Just a Dog’. I’ll have to read it, it sounds wonderful.
