It’s ‘Ice Breaker’ publication day!
October 22nd, 2013
Yes, my dears, ‘Ice Breaker’ is now officially in the shops – in Australia and New Zealand, at least. Which is pretty exciting. Have you seen it anywhere? Have you read it yet? If you have, come and tell us what you thought.
Here’s what Elena said about it (she’s one of the girls who is doing a review at the Hobart launch):
Ice Breaker is another extraordinary book written by Lian Tanner. It is beautifully written, the words drawing you in and capturing you in excitement, despair and wonder. It leaves you breathless, making tears swell up in your eyes, creating questions spring to mind and making you not want to stop reading.ย
Isn’t that nice? And she played around with the cover a bit too, coming up with some interesting effects:
I’ve also been collecting penguins for the launch. ๐ This lot were made by Grade 5 Whelan at Lauderdale Primary School.
This lot were made by Grade 4 Stephens.
This little guy at the front is also from Grade 4 Stephens.
And these plump birds were made by the kindergarten class at Goulburn Street Primary School!
So it looks as if we’re going to have a wonderful assortment of penguins for the launch – AND I reckon more will turn up on the day.
Tomorrow morning very early I’m going on breakfast radio to talk about the launch. Friday I’m going to pick up some BIG penguins, and also take the portholes in to the Founders Room.
And on Sunday …
I got Ice Breaker from the libary yesterday, and I just finished it. It’s fantastic! I really liked all the charters especially Dolph!
The plot is exciting, moving and thrilling! It is really well written.
All the penguins (in the pictures above) look great. I can’t wait for Claws to come out!
Thankyou sooooo much for writing such a fabulous book!
You are such a quick reader, Kate! And I’m really pleased that you liked Ice Breaker so much. Thanks for letting me know.
I think that Ice Breaker deserves a 5 out of 5!

Love the penguins!
Me too, Io. And they’ll look terrific once they’re all set up together at the launch.
Congratulations on another fabulous story! I’ve just finished reading Ice Breaker and thoroughly enjoyed delving into the world of oil and rust and hidden corners in the dark that you created, and holding my breath as Petrel… whoops, better not say any more.
LOL. Thanks Cate, so glad you enjoyed it. It was a terrific world to write about!
Hi Lian. Icebreaker was fantastic. I rate it 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
Out of 10! When is the next book coming out? From Hugh
p.s. I am your 2nd cousin twice removed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! p.p.s. the one you met at the book launch.
Wow! I guess you liked it then. ๐ So pleased to hear it, Hugh, and thanks for dropping past to tell me. And yes, of course I remember you from the launch. It’s not every day one gets to meet a new cousin!
The second book in the series will come out in exactly a year’s time. I’ve put your email address on my launch invitation list, so you’ll know about it well in advance.
Yay!
Iโll be there for sure.
When is Ice Breaker coming to America? I’m dying to read it!
Hi Flynn, it’s being published in the US next year, 2015. I’ve got a new US publisher, that’s the reason for the delay. I think they’re bringing it out in spring, but when I get more details I’ll put it up on my blog.
