Bookplates for the Hidden series

January 12th, 2014

I’m in the process of getting some new bookplates made for the new series. I love the Keepers bookplates (and if you don’t have at least one yet, go here to see what they’re like and order them), but I also thought it’d be good to have ones with Mister Smoke and Missus Slink on them. So I emailed artist Seb Ciaffaglione, and here’s what he sent me.

As you can see, there’s space in the middle for me to write ‘To Olga Ciavolga, best wishes, Lian Tanner’ – or whatever else you’d like me to write, as long as it’s not too long, because you may have noticed that it’s not a very big space. πŸ™‚

I’ve just ordered them, which means they aren’t available yet, as they have to come from the USA. I’ll let you know when they arrive.

Meanwhile I’m on my last day of holiday and about to launch back into the ‘Sunker’s Deep’ edit, which hopefully won’t take too long. Then I’ll start working on Book 3, which has a working title of ‘Fetcher’. And in March I’ll be at the Beaconsfield Festival of Golden Words. No interstate visits planned as yet – or international!

Awesome work Seb Ciaffaglione! I’d love to have one or two of those! And Congrats Lian for getting into the Beaconsfield Festival of Golden Words!

Thanks Io! And yes, you will certainly be able to get a couple of the new bookplates when they arrive. The order has gone in – I’m just waiting to hear how long they will take to get here.

  2. Io says:

How long how long how long?!? I’m a very impatient person by the way. Tell them that.

I haven’t heard back yet. I shall pass on your impatience. πŸ™‚

    Hi Lian
    Long time no ….. Comments?
Merry Christmas and a happy new year !
I hope you have had an awesome 2013 and that 2014 can be even better!
Thank you for signing icebreaker I always wanted to read it but I could not find it anywhere and when I saw the packaging of a book from a bookshop in Hobart ,I knew that it was the one and only icebreaker !
The bookplates are such a great idea and I believe that Seb is one of the most talented artists I’ve ever seen ,I love the typewriter font down the bottom !
Thank you for all of your help in 2013 and I cannot wait to get a bookplate !
    Love from Lilli πŸ™‚

Happy New Year, Lilli, and I’m glad to hear Ice Breaker arrived safely (with signature). πŸ™‚ I agree about the bookplates, and I’m one of Seb’s loyal fans – how could I not be after the wonderful covers he creates for my books?

This is so disappointing. I look around in my school library, searching for some books to read. I pick out four: ‘My sister lives on the mantlepiece’, ‘Dead men stood together’, ‘Bird’ and ‘Icebreaker’. Four days later I am finishing ‘Icebreaker’. Eagerly, I look online, too impatient to wait until Monday to get the next one.

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

I am not a very patient person and am waiting foot-tappingly until the arrival of the next book in this breath-taking series.

    1. Lian says:

Ah, Bee, I know how you feel. It is so frustrating when you find a series you like, but the second book isn’t out yet. Nevertheless, I’m REALLY glad you liked Icebreaker so much! And hope your foot doesn’t wear out from all the tapping – Book 2, Summer’s Deep, will be out in November.

I read a very interesting book, which I think has a very good point of view and a very alarming and eye-opening message. It is based on real world problems, but it is set in the future and it is a fantasy story. I think you should read it Lian, and any of Lian’s other readers who are old enough to read very sophisticated and gory books (probably about 12 and over, if you think you can handle it.) It’s called Breathe.
(Also Lian have you read The Fault In Our Stars?)

Is this the book by Sarah Crossan? Thanks for the recommendation, Lily, I’ve put it on hold at the library. And yes, I read The Fault in Our Stars a couple of weeks ago, and loved it.
