A new competition!
May 12th, 2013
Because I started writing The Claw last Friday, and because Miss Mouse has recovered from what looked very like a terminal illness (and also because Gabi asked so nicely), we are going to have a new competition.
Here’s what you have to do to enter:
1. Choose your favourite phrase or sentence from any of the three Keepers books. It can be just a few words or as long as you like – but it has to fit onto one page.
2. Make a design using that phrase/sentence. You can do the design by hand and then photograph it, or you can do it on the computer, whichever you prefer. Here are a couple of examples that people have sent me in the past – just in case you’re not sure what I’m talking about. Of course yours don’t have to be anything at all like these. Feel free to surprise me.
3. Email the design to me at the following address: lian at liantanner dot com, along with your age (if you’re under 18). And your first name.
4. Only one entry per person.
5. Adults can enter, as well as kids, and I’ll judge them in a separate category.
6. The competition closes at midnight on June 16th. Which gives you five weeks. The results will be announced a few days later.
7. If you win, you can choose between audio books and hard copies of the Keepers. If you’ve already got them, you can give them away as presents.
8. Tell your friends. Letβs see how many entries we can get. Leave a message if you’ve got any questions I haven’t answered.
AWESOME! Thx Lian! I’ll start after I finished my homework tonight!!!

And did you find out what was wrong with Miss Mouse???
(I hope she is Okay π )
No, Io, the vet just didn’t know what was wrong. They were surprised and pleased when she started to get better. So was I! And yes, she’s doing very well now thanks – and getting fat on all the chicken and fish I’m feeding her. I think she decided that she couldn’t possibly die when I was suddenly feeding her such a dream diet. π
I wouldn’t die either if I was fed with ice cream, jelly and all those food humans want! π π π
Hello Lian
My name is Gigi ,and my owner Lilli loves your books!
After reading them myself ( ok ,I confess ,I did not read them but I listened to the audio books !) ,I agree that your books are purrfect for cats alike !
If you were wondering ,I am a kitten and I am a Seal Torbie Tabby Birman ,and I am very proud of my heritage.
I hope you a ………..MOUSE !
DID I SEE A MOUSE ???/
No ( sigh ) that was just my annoying brother Pierre !
Oh well , Bye Lian
P.S I you could tell Miss Mouse that I am her biggest fan ,it would be greatly appreciated !
From Gigi ( pronounced Gee -Gee )
Dear Gigi, how delightful to hear from a kitten of such obvious good manners and intelligence! This is Miss Mouse here. I was very pleased with your message – though I am not at all well again, and have had to drag myself to the keyboard to answer my fan mail. My companion human, Lian, is very worried about me. We cats live such short lives in comparison with humans and elephants – but we DO live exciting lives, and if the end is near – well, I can only say, in the words of that great Parisian feline singer Edith Pussycat, ‘I regret nothing!’
Awesome! I’ll get started this weekend!

Yay! I will deffinantly be entering!
Can we do a photo?
Hmm, interesting question, Isabel. I hadn’t thought of photos. I guess a design is a design, and it’s up to you how you do it. So if you want to use a photo rather than a drawing, that’s okay.
hi lian,
are we allowed to do paintings i love painting and drawing?
Hi Sophie, yes, paintings and drawings are definitely allowed!
Ooh, Lian, I spent a couple of hours last night working on my entry- it should be through to you in the next couple of days. Sorry to hear about Miss Mouse- we had a similar problem with our cat when he was quite young and he, very sadly, had another problem a few weeks ago and died. I hope she’s okay. x
I’m looking forward to seeing your entry, Romi. And I’m very sorry to hear about your cat. It’s so very sad when one of your animal friends gets sick, isn’t it. Miss Mouse is hanging on – thanks for asking about her. I took her to the vet yesterday – he thinks she probably has feline leukaemia virus, which means there is not likely to be a happy outcome. But she is still eating and drinking, so we are taking things a day at a time.
Hello Lian
It’s Hari here. I am a beautiful white long haired she-cat with grey markings. Isabella (my owner), and I have just started reading The Keepers series and we are enjoying it greatly. (Ok to be honest I don’t read them Isabella reads them to me but it’s the same thing really!). I think this competition of yours sounds purrfect for a cat like me and I rally wish I could enter myself!
Anyway I hear Isabella calling my name to hear one of my favourite pices of The City Of Lies! (In case you are wondering it is when Goldie turns into Princess Frisa when she summons a Big Lie!)
P.S If you could please read this to Miss Mouse it would be greatly appreciated!
(Miss Mouse is my inspiration!)
Dear Hari,
I have read your message to Miss Mouse and she asked me, very weakly (poor darling, she is at death’s doorstep) to say how pleased she is to have been your inspiration, and that she hopes you will remember her when she is gone. I shall certainly remember her – she has been the best cat of all time and I will be very very sad when I have to say goodbye to her – which will not be long now. This is going to be a sad weekend, I fear …
Io: Hi Lian!
(Io: yes I know Gabi! Be patient!)
Gabi has- (Io: stop looking at me like that!)
told me that she wanted to do the competition. (Gabi: no, not like that! Like this. Give me the keyboard.)
Gabi: I am very thank you for making this facsinating comp and is wishing to- (Io: seriously? You act like your talking to a queen!)
(Gabi: Well Lian is famous right? Everyone is reading her books right now! Well everyone that hasn’t read your books yet. She deserves to be spoken to like this!
Io: well, ya. But really, you’re over reacting!
Gabi: Fine! I’ll get you for that)
I am wishing to join in with this facsinating comp. (Io: still overeacting!
Gabi: thanks a lot!)
Gabi & Io
(Io: no! not Gabi & Io! It should be Io & Gabi)
Io & Gabi
*laughing very loudly*
Gabi, I will be very pleased if you enter the fascinating competition – particularly as it was you who reminded me that we needed to have one!
Oh right! I knew that!
You totally did Gabi. π
I was wondering since we are talking about the keepers what ended happening yo Goldie and Toadspit.
Hi Laura, do you mean after the end of the trilogy? I really don’t know – I assume they continued to be Keepers of the Museum of Dunt. Beyond that I leave it up to the imagination of my readers. Though if I ever end up writing more stories set in that world (which is quite possible) we might get a glimpse of Goldie and Toadspit when are older. π
