Off to Chicago

November 13th, 2011

Well, I’m off to Chicago on Tuesday morning! It’s a bad time to leave home, mainly because the strawberries are ripe. πŸ™‚ AND it’s getting warmer, and I had my first ocean swim for the season last week – now here I am heading into very cold weather. Forecast for Wednesday is 5 degrees Celcius! Brrr! I’m packing lots of warm socks.

I’ve never been to Chicago before, but people say it’s a really nice city. I’m talking at the National Council of Teachers of English annual conference, on a panel called ‘Examining the Past and Exploring the Imaginative with Outstanding International Books’. I’m also visiting a school – don’t know the name of it yet – and doing lots of book signing and going to a dinner and a breakfast and various other things.I’m going to get to meet some other authors too, which will be interesting.

So I’m nearly packed, and I’ve got the house sitter arranged. And this morning I explained to Miss Mouse that I’ll be away for ten days – she of course merely blinked and went back to watching butterflies.

Phew! Mind you, it’s pretty cold this morning in Chicago. Definitely gloves and hat weather. But the sun is shining and I’m having a good time despite the jet lag. πŸ™‚

must be beautiful to get to see Chicago in the fall. And also it is getting cold. :/

I’m finding it a really interesting city, Hannah. I particularly like the old skyscrapers, and today I am going to ride on the El. I am VERY rugged up – the cold bites right into your face, which is a bit of a shock after warm Tasmania!
