I’ve been thinking about running another competition – mainly because they’re fun, but also because we haven’t had one for ages, and we’ve never had one for Ice Breaker.
Trouble is, I can’t decide what it would be about. My favourite comp so far was the dress-up one – it’d be good to do another one of those. But maybe the characters in Ice Breaker are a bit limited in terms of clothes. Would it be hard to dress up as Petrel? Or as Fin? What do you think?
Of course I also loved the design comp, and the drawing comp. And I’m open to trying something new. So please give me some suggestions!
As for prizes, I thought first prize could be an advance copy of The Hidden 2: Sunker’s Deep. Which would mean that if you won you wouldn’t actually get your prize until later in the year. But you would get it before it came into the shops! I also have some really nice Ice Breaker posters for runners-up – the same pic as on the cover of the book.
When I’m not thinking about competitions, I’m writing The Hidden 3: Fetcher. That’s only its working title, of course – I have no idea what it’ll really be. I’ve been writing it for a week so far, and enjoying it a lot. Writing Sunker’s Deep was hard hard hard. Not sure why, but I was determined that I was going to have a much better time with this one, so I named 2014 the Year of Writing with Joy. So far it’s working. 🙂
Only a short post this time, because I have to go and draw the Sunker’s Deep map. Which means squinting at all the scraps of paper that I’ve got bits and pieces on, and trying to make sense of my scribbles. Hmm. I probably should have tried to be a bit tidier in the first place! (Except tidiness doesn’t go with creativity and fun and writing with joy, so maybe not.)
Get thinking about the competition, people!
