Illustrations for City of Lies

December 9th, 2010

I’ve just seen the new character illustrations for the second book, City of Lies, and they are GORGEOUS. The artist is Seb Ciaffaglione, who did the pics for the first book, and I think he has outdone himself. I’m busting to show them to someone, but will have to wait. Maybe I can sneak one in sometime in the new year, just to give people a taste …

As for Museum of Thieves, it seems to be travelling well. It’s just gone into reprint in Australia, and we’ve got new contracts for translation into Turkish, Bahasa Indonesian and Brazilian Portuguese. No idea which cover they will use, or if they’ll do their own. Or what ‘Toadspit’ will look like in the various languages.

On the downside, there’s no way I’m going to get the first draft of Path of Beasts finished before the end of the year. I have to go back to Adelaide next week to help clear out my mum’s unit, so there’s very little time left. Never mind – I’ll finish it early in the new year.

I’m a reader from Singapore who got to know the book after playing the spot the difference game (the illustrations were beautiful!). I’ve just finished reading the book, and my favorite characters are Broo and Sinew 😀 I’m looking forward to reading City of Lies!

Hello Jean! Thanks for your message. I’ve heard from a number of people who have come to the book the same way you have. That game is so beautifully illustrated that I’m sure it lures people in. And it would be interesting reading the book after seeing all those rooms. It would give you a very clear idea of the museum.

Wow I’m so glad I found this website. I feel like I’m talking to a famous person!!! Your an amazing author! I can’t wait to see what happens in City of Lies! The first book was amazing and I had to read it for a mystery book report, but it was a great read. I’ve never been a fan of mystery books, but this was an exceptional exception! I read the sneak peek at the end of the book, and i just can’t wait to read City of Lies! Thanks for making the books!

Hi Alex, I’m glad you found the website too. And what a nice thing to have my book described as an exceptional exception! I’m pleased that you thought it was a good mystery. Have you seen my posts about character cards (https://liantanner.com.au/australian-indie-awards) and free bookplates (https://liantanner.com.au/free-bookplates)? Let me know if you’d like either or both. I am trying to get them out into the world!
