Olga Ciavologa, Dan and ridiculous lists
July 9th, 2012
Having taken the last couple of weeks off, I’m now starting to think about what to write next. The thing I’m most interested in is writing a series of prequels to the Keepers trilogy – starting with a trilogy based around Olga Ciavolga and Herro Dan, when they were children. Before the museum existed. Back when Broo was a pup, and Morg was still in the egg.
So this morning, with the wood heater going and Miss Mouse asleep beside it, I got out my folder of background notes and scraps of paper and newspaper cuttings and photocopies to see what I already knew about the world that existed 5oo years before Goldie and Toadspit met in the Museum of Dunt.
There was lots of useful stuff – things that sent me scurrying to jot down ideas and spread them all over the floor, as you can see.
But there was also a list. Right at the back of the folder. This list had two columns, and everything in the first column had a tick against it, and everything in the second column didn’t.
Here’s the first column (the ones with the ticks):
pill
moose
kind
unlikely
weather vane
rose
And here’s the second column (the ones without the ticks):
cakes
fish
bare bottoms
kites
mice
skittles
balls
posts
And you know what? I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what any of this means. It’s definitely my writing, but what on earth was I thinking? A bizarre shopping list? Things to avoid? Who knows? All suggestions gratefully received!
Very cute cat !
That sounds soooooooo cool having a trilogy of Olga and Dan!
I’m glad you like the idea, Maeve. I’ve been thinking about it for a while, and I think there are some really exciting stories in it.
That sounds amazing! Love the idea of you writing the trilogy about Herro Dan and Olga Chavolga!
Glad you like the idea, Hannah. It’s taking me a while to get started – I think I’m still caught up in the world of ‘Frozen’. But I’ll get there eventually!
Hi Lian,
I absolutely love the idea of writing more about the keepers because it is probably one of my favourite books of all time. I have recommended your books to some of my friends and they have read it and said that they would love to read more of your books. You should totally write sequels of The Keepers.

P.S Miss Mouse is adorable
Hi Jordyn, you’ll be pleased to hear that I had a talk with my Australian publishers this week, and they are very interested in another trilogy – but this one will be a prequel, telling the story of Olga Ciavolga and Dan when they were children, and how the museum came to be built.
P.S. I agree! She is!
That is amazing news lian and if it does come out (and it should) I will definetly buy it and read it. I have one question, do you know the exact release date of path of beasts in America and Australia?
π
Hi Jordyn, exact date is October 1st in Australia and October 9th in the US.
Omg I just cannot wait for the last book of the trilogy. I have been looking forward to this all year!
Have you found out what the list is for yet?
LOL No! I still have no idea.
It seems like a very odd list I wonder what it could be for
Pick one thing from each list and try to build a book around them . . . challenging and fun. Thats what I’d do.
Good idea!
Why thank you (LOL)
i want ur cat! she is sooo cute! lol :D. Anyway, its awesum u want to write a new book! and with ur list…i dont know wat 2 say about it but i luv how u didnt even know wat it was about or anything! owell… haha u will figure it out! π
She’s gorgeous, isn’t she Rachel. As for the list, I have given up. It will forever remain a mystery to me. ;D
If pill, moose, kind and rose were on the second list, and fish was on the first it would make more sense. A list for Ice Breaker!
You’re right, Amber! I didn’t see that. Maybe my unconscious mind was working on the book right back then! π
